The 31st Annual Workshop on Information Technologies and Systems (WITS’21) will be held in a hybrid mode that has an in person meeting in Austin, TX and allows for remote participation for presenters and attendees who are unable to travel. WITS will be held just after the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS). The purpose of the workshop is to provide a forum for discussion and interaction among scholars with research interests in the cutting-edge issues of information technologies and systems. The theme of WITS’21 is “Fair and Inclusive Information Systems by Design”

Fairness and inclusiveness are widely perceived as important values by societies worldwide. Because information systems are integral to a broad array of activities — from finance, health care, to one’s social life — it is important to consider how these constructs can and should be integrated in the design of systems, and what approaches can productively promote such socially desirable values. This edition of the workshop seeks to promote research that meaningfully and creatively consider different aspects of fairness and inclusion issues in information systems. We are particularly seeking papers that rigorously study fairness and inclusiveness of systems for their diverse stakeholders through careful theoretical analysis or that include sound and meaningful empirical evaluations.

This theme seeks to engage research in a broad range of topics, including the following:
